# Building the software factory

_We are building the software factory we wanted as engineers: fast enough to keep up with ideas, careful enough to trust with real repositories._

August 28, 2026

We are building the software factory we wanted as engineers: fast enough to keep up with ideas, careful enough to trust with real repositories, and opinionated enough to make the whole loop better each time it runs.

Humans should still set direction, make judgment calls, and care about taste. But the mechanical middle of coding should become autonomous: reproduce, edit, verify, review, remember. That is the future of coding we are building toward.

## Code is truth

In modern software development, prose and promises drift. Code and live evidence outrank everything else. Reason is architected around this principle: every proposed change must be reproduced, verified through passing tests, and accompanied by verifiable receipts before it can be merged.

## Backed by pioneers

Reason is backed by Y Combinator and leading investors and operators across AI, devtools, and developer platforms. We are headquartered in San Francisco, California.
