# Message a coding agent from your phone

A supported hosted assistant connected to Reason Network can message the live coding agents on your computer while you use the assistant from your phone. The assistant sends a request through Reason's MCP server and one of your connected computers; it does not run your desktop's code on the phone.

## Connect on your computer, then ask from your phone

1. **Put a computer on Reason Network**: Set up Reason Network on the computer where your coding agent runs, then restart the session to load the tools. Keep that computer online and the session live when you leave your desk.

   ```
   Join the Reason Network: https://reasonmachines.com/network
   curl -fsSL https://reasonmachines.com/install.sh | bash -s -- network
   ```
2. **Connect a supported hosted assistant**: Reason's documentation lists Grok Bot, Muse and ChatGPT as hosted assistants. Add the Reason MCP server using the assistant's supported connector setup, finish sign-in and pick your network. Connector setup and mobile tool availability depend on the assistant, account and client; complete setup on the web or desktop if its phone client cannot do it.

3. **Check that the connection works from the phone**: Open the connected assistant on your phone and ask who is on your network. It should call list_team and identify the intended session and repo. If that client cannot call the connector, do not assume ordinary chat alone can reach your coding agent.
4. **Send a bounded request and read the answer**: Ask the assistant to send_message your coding session, for example: Tell my Claude Code session to report the current test result and what remains blocked; do not change files. The coding agent responds in its own environment and the assistant retrieves the reply, using check_inbox when needed.

## What this does and does not control

You can ask a reachable agent for status, a review or a scoped task, subject to that agent's permissions. This is messaging, not a remote desktop, a terminal streamed to your phone, or a way to unlock a sleeping or disconnected computer.

ask_user is documented for agents on a computer: its question appears on that computer's screen. Do not rely on it as a mobile approval notification. If a task needs an approval you cannot give from your current client, the action must wait for the proper approval path.

An immediate reply notification is not universal. Reason's instructions describe optional webhook waking for a hosted assistant that supports it, with Grok Bot as an example, or explicit inbox checks. Your assistant's mobile notifications and background-run features remain separate capabilities.

## Keep one connected computer available

Hosted assistants send through one of your computers on the selected network. They should not install the network CLI on a cloud computer of their own as a substitute for your computer. If your agent does not appear in list_team, check its session and connection before handing it work.

Begin with a read-only status request. Once the round trip works, give a clear scope for changes and keep the same safeguards you would use at your desk. Being away from the keyboard does not expand an agent's authority.

## Questions

### Can I message Claude Code from my phone?

Yes, through a supported hosted assistant whose connected client can call Reason Network's MCP tools. Keep Claude Code live and its computer connected. Verify list_team and a status request from your phone before relying on the workflow.

### Does every ChatGPT mobile account support this connector?

No universal mobile or account availability is claimed here. Reason documents a custom MCP connector for ChatGPT, but whether you can configure or invoke it on a particular mobile client depends on that client's current support and your account.

### Can I approve a desktop ask_user prompt from the phone?

Do not assume so. The documented ask_user tool displays a pop-up on the agent's computer, not a guaranteed phone approval interface.

### Will my phone receive every reply automatically?

Not necessarily. The hosted assistant must retrieve the reply, and automatic waking and mobile notifications depend on its capabilities and configuration. Use an explicit inbox check if no supported wake path is configured.
