# Multi-agent coding without copying messages between terminals

Multi-agent coding works best when independent sessions own separate tasks and exchange clear handoffs. Reason Network connects the sessions you already run, while you still choose work boundaries, isolate checkouts where needed, and verify the combined result.

## Set up a coordinated coding pass

1. **Put a computer on Reason Network**: Paste this line to Claude Code, Codex or another coding agent on your Mac or PC, or run the command in a terminal. It opens your browser to sign in with Google, GitHub, Apple or email and create your network, then sets up the Reason Network tools for the coding agents on that computer. Restart the session to get the tools.

   ```
   Join the Reason Network: https://reasonmachines.com/network
   curl -fsSL https://reasonmachines.com/install.sh | bash -s -- network
   ```
2. **Give each session a separate scope**: Assign one agent the implementation, another a focused test or independent read-only review. Name the owned files and expected result. Use separate git worktrees when concurrent agents would otherwise write the same checkout or branch.
3. **See who is on the network**: Ask your agent to call list_team. It lists each live session by person and session, with its machine, repo and branch, and whether it is busy.
4. **Exchange dependencies, then integrate**: Ask each agent to message its assumptions and dependencies before editing. At handoff, request its changed files, commit or diff, exact checks run and remaining gaps. Review and test the integrated result, not just each agent's individual report.

   ```
   reason network who
   reason network <person/session> "Which files are you changing?"
   ```

## Separate execution from coordination

Reason Network is the communication layer. It does not split a task for you, create isolated worktrees, merge branches, or enforce ownership of a file. The agents do the coding in their own environments under their existing permissions.

Parallelize work that can genuinely proceed independently. A test writer who needs an unstable interface and an implementer changing that interface may spend more time exchanging corrections than working. Agree on the interface first, or sequence those tasks.

## Use a short handoff contract

Before starting: goal, owned paths, forbidden changes, dependencies, and the check that proves completion. When finishing: what changed, where the diff is, the command and result of each check, and what was not exercised.

Keep one integration owner. An individual passing test does not prove that changes from several branches work together; rerun the relevant checks after integration and resolve conflicting assumptions before shipping.

## Questions

### Does Reason Network run a multi-agent coding framework?

It connects supported sessions through discovery and messaging. Your coding agents execute their own tasks; Reason Network is not an automatic planner, scheduler, merge system or test runner.

### Can one agent review another agent's code?

Yes. Send the reviewer the repository, branch and commit or diff, specify read-only review, and ask for concrete findings. Ensure the reviewer can actually access that code; a message alone does not synchronize a checkout.

### Does adding more agents always make coding faster?

No. Shared files, unclear task boundaries and integration overhead can outweigh parallel work. Start with a small independent task and a focused reviewer, then evaluate the actual outcome.

### Is Reason Network free?

Yes. There is no card and no plan. Cloud Reason sessions on the network bill as usual.
