Reason works on its own cloud computer, on a Reason plan.

Three tools. One teammate that uses them.

Grok Bot is xAI's always-on teammate for any job, Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent built around Claude models, and Codex is OpenAI's coding agent with an open-source CLI and cloud tasks. On Artificial Analysis's Coding Agent Index v2.0, Claude Code on Opus 5.5 leads Codex on GPT-6 Astra, 62 to 55, and Grok Bot isn't benchmarked as a coding agent; Reason works with all three, running on the Claude and ChatGPT plans you connect.

Use all three from Reason

  1. Open Reason on the web or the Mac app

Sign in at reasonmachines.com, or download the Reason app for macOS from reasonmachines.com/download. Both open the same Sessions. Sending work to Reason needs a Pro or Max plan.

  2. Connect the plans you already pay for

In Settings › Models, connect subscriptions such as Claude (Pro or Max), ChatGPT (Plus, Pro or Business), Grok (SuperGrok or X Premium+) or GitHub Copilot, or add API keys. Reason runs on your own accounts first; a Reason plan's credits cover the rest.

  3. Add Reason to Grok Bot

Tell Grok Bot to add the Reason MCP server https://mcp.reasonmachines.com/mcp and sign in when it asks. Grok Bot can then start Reason sessions for coding work, which run on Reason's cloud computer and Reason credits, not your Grok weekly pool.

  4. Describe the task in the composer

Name the repository and say what you want, for example "fix the failing checkout test and open a pull request". Reason works on its own cloud computer, runs the tests, and opens the pull request for you to review.

Prices are US list prices and scores are as Artificial Analysis lists them, checked Nov 2, 2026. The index measures a harness and model together on FrontierCode v1.1, Terminal-Bench 4.0 and SWE-Atlas-QnA-AA; try the same task in each on your own repository before you choose.

Which to use when

Claude Code if you want the highest-scoring agent on public benchmarks and already pay for a Claude plan. Codex if you have a ChatGPT plan, want an open-source CLI or OpenAI models. Grok Bot if what you need is a teammate that watches events, keeps routines and delegates, more than one that writes code.

Reason is the always-on teammate that is also a coding agent: its own cloud computer per Session, memory, Loops and Slack, with the model picked per task from Reason's models or your connected Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or Copilot accounts. Hit your limit? Reason keeps going on your other connected accounts or Reason credits.

On Artificial Analysis's Coding Agent Index v2.0, Claude Code on Opus 5.5 scores 62 and Codex on GPT-6 Astra 55; Grok Bot isn't benchmarked as a coding agent. One index on one set of tasks: try them on your own work.

Which runs while my laptop is closed?

Grok Bot on its persistent cloud computer, Claude Code cloud sessions, and Codex cloud tasks all keep working with your laptop closed. Local Claude Code and Codex sessions need your computer on.

Can I use them together?

Yes. Reason Network lets Grok Bot message your own Claude Code or Codex sessions, and Reason can run on your Claude and ChatGPT plans in Settings › Models.

Which is cheapest?
