Past Max's limits, without starting over.

The main Claude Max alternatives at $100 to $200 a month are ChatGPT Pro (from $100, with Codex and, today, no five-hour limit), GitHub Copilot Max ($100, Claude Opus models included), Cursor Super ($100) and Devin Max ($200), and within Anthropic, Ultra ($200) replaced Max 20x and has no five-hour limit once verified. If Max's limits are the problem rather than its price, Reason runs your Claude plan beside ChatGPT, Copilot and Grok plans in one coding agent and keeps going on your other connected accounts or Reason credits.

Keep your plan and add the others in Reason

  1. Open Reason on the web or the Mac app

Sign in at reasonmachines.com, or download the Reason app for macOS from reasonmachines.com/download. Both open the same Sessions. Sending work to Reason needs a Pro or Max plan.

  2. Connect the plans you already pay for

In Settings › Models, under Subscriptions, connect ChatGPT (Plus, Pro or Business), Claude (Pro or Max), Grok (SuperGrok or X Premium+) or GitHub Copilot, and add API keys if you have them. Work on those accounts is billed by their provider, not in Reason credits.

  3. Pick the model per task

In the composer, choose the model for each Session: a smaller model for routine fixes, a larger one for hard changes. Each Session shows the model and account it ran on.

  4. Keep going at a limit

When the account a turn runs on hits its limit, Reason moves the turn to your other connected accounts for that provider, then to Reason credits if your workspace can pay, and says so in the conversation.

Claude Max and the alternatives

PlanPriceUsage and limits, from its plan page
Claude Max$100 a month5x Pro usage every five hours and every week, shared across Claude and Claude Code
Claude Ultra$200 a monthReplaced Max 20x; 10x Pro's weekly usage; no five-hour limit once verified
ChatGPT Pro$100, $200 or $500 a monthCodex everywhere; no five-hour limit today, weekly limits may apply; Ultrafast on Pro 500 only
GitHub Copilot Max$100 a month20,000 AI credits a month; Claude Opus and Fable models included
Cursor Super / Ultra$100 / $200 a monthA weekly usage pool shared across Cursor and Grok; other vendors' models billed separately
Devin Max$200 a monthAllowance refreshes daily and weekly; extra usage at API pricing

From each vendor's plan page, checked Nov 2, 2026. Max includes $100 a month in API credits for the Claude Platform, but Anthropic says they can't be used in Claude Code or the Claude apps.

Which alternative fits

Hitting Max's five-hour limit: Ultra removes it once verified, and ChatGPT Pro has no five-hour limit today. Want Claude models without a Claude plan: Copilot Max includes Opus and Fable in Copilot's own agents. Already on Cursor or Devin: their top tiers keep you in the same tool.

Or keep Max and add a second plan from another provider, so a limit on one doesn't stop the work.

Reason: all your AI subscriptions in one coding agent

Use the subscriptions you already pay for (ChatGPT Plus/Pro/Business, Claude Pro/Max, SuperGrok or X Premium+, GitHub Copilot) or your own API keys in one coding agent. Hit your limit? Reason keeps going on your other connected accounts or Reason credits.

Reason isn't the lowest-priced agent on this page: Pro is $50 a month with 1,250 credits a week, and Max is $200 with 5,000; a credit is $0.04. Work on your own connected subscriptions or API keys is billed by that provider, not in Reason credits, so you don't pay twice for a plan you already have.

On cost: in Reason's published benchmark on GPT-6 Astra at xhigh effort, with the same tasks and graders, Reason 1.1 scored 65.1 against Codex's 62.5 on Coding Agent Index v1.5, at 22% lower cost per solved task. That's Reason's benchmark of its own harness, with the runner published to reproduce it.
