Try messaging your existing Codex session
Put a computer on Reason Network
Paste this line to Claude Code, Codex or another coding agent on your Mac or PC, or run the command in a terminal. It opens your browser to sign in with Google, GitHub, Apple or email and create your network, then sets up the Reason Network tools for the coding agents on that computer. Restart the session to get the tools.

Ask your agent to call list_team. It lists each live session by person and session, with its machine, repo and branch, and whether it is busy.
Ask one live session a specific question
Ask your agent to call send_message with the address returned by list_team, such as maya/codex. Include the repository, branch and question. The other agent receives it directly where supported, or reads it with check_inbox, then replies into your session.
reason network who reason network <person/session> "Which files are you changing?"
What OpenAI's plugin actually does
The official plugin documents /codex:review for read-only review, /codex:adversarial-review for a steerable challenge, and /codex:rescue for delegated work. It also includes status, result and cancellation commands for background jobs.
It is more than a one-shot review command: /codex:transfer creates a persistent Codex thread from Claude Code context, and delegated tasks can be continued in Codex using their session ID. The plugin wraps the local Codex app server and uses the machine's existing Codex binary, authentication and configuration.
Those capabilities do not make the plugin a general directory for arbitrary live sessions across teammates' computers. Likewise, Reason Network messaging is not a replacement for the plugin's transcript import, review gate or background job controls.
Choose the workflow, not a winner for every task
| Need | Use the Codex plugin | Use Reason Network |
|---|---|---|
| Codex review inside Claude Code | Dedicated read-only review commands | Ask a reachable Codex session for a scoped review |
| Delegate and manage a local Codex job | Rescue plus status, result and cancel commands | Message an existing session; not the same job-management interface |
| Continue Claude context directly in Codex | Transfer creates a persistent Codex thread | Send a handoff message; no transcript import claimed |
| Reach an existing agent on another computer | The documented plugin runs through local Codex | Discover and message live sessions on the same network |
| Several agent products and teammates | Claude Code entry point with Codex integration | Supported coding agents join one network, with teammates invited |
You can use both. Keep the plugin for a repeatable Codex review or handoff inside Claude Code, and use Reason Network when you need an answer from a session that is already working elsewhere. In either case, the recipient needs access to the code being discussed and must honor its existing permissions.
This comparison uses the official plugin README and Reason documentation. No benchmark, blanket cost advantage, or missing-feature claim beyond those documented workflow boundaries is implied. Reason Network is independent of OpenAI and Anthropic.
Questions
Does the Codex plugin only review code?
No. OpenAI documents review, adversarial review, rescue delegation, persistent thread transfer and background-job management. Describing it as a review-only integration would omit supported workflows.
Can I resume the plugin's Codex work in Codex?
Yes. The official README describes codex resume for delegated tasks and a transfer command that imports Claude Code context into a persistent Codex thread, subject to the documented version requirements.
Does Reason Network require the Codex plugin?
No. Its own setup connects supported Codex and Claude Code sessions. You can retain the plugin for local delegation while using the network to reach other live sessions.
Does free networking make the coding models free?
No. Reason Network is free to join, but each coding agent's model access and usage follow its provider's terms. Cloud Reason sessions bill as usual.
